Our Story
Larry and Jolene Schwinger started this business in the late 1980s with a mower, a truck, and a service area they could cover in a day. Stuart was home. The customers were neighbors. That was the whole model, and it worked.
I'm John Schwinger, Larry and Jolene's son. I grew up around this business and eventually took it over. Same town, same idea about how to treat customers. We've added equipment, services, and crew over the years, but the core of what we do hasn't changed: show up when we say we will, do good work, and be honest about what a property needs.
Today, Schwinger Lawn Service handles everything from routine mowing to full lawn care programs, hydroseeding, grading, snow removal, and trucking. In 2013, we added SLS Tree Management to handle tree trimming, tree removal, stump grinding, storm cleanup, and emerald ash borer treatment. One company, two service lines, all based in Stuart.
We're not trying to cover all of Iowa. We're focused on Guthrie County and the communities around it, the places close enough that we can be responsive and do the work right. That's where our reputation is, and that's where we plan to stay.

SLS Tree Management
We added the tree division in 2013 because the need was there. Customers were already calling us for lawn work and asking if we could handle the trees too. SLS Tree Management is the answer to that question. It operates under the Schwinger Outdoor umbrella and is run with the same crew, same standards, and same commitment to getting it right.
Tree work carries real risk. We carry full insurance coverage on every job, no exceptions. Before we pick up a chainsaw or put a climber in any tree, that coverage is in place. Ask us for proof of insurance anytime.
We handle trees of all sizes, from routine trimming to full removals. Storm damage is a specialty -- when a big storm hits Guthrie County, we're one of the first calls and we respond fast. We also treat for emerald ash borer, which has hit a lot of trees in central Iowa hard over the past decade.
